Questions for Companies
UTDsolv is JSOM’s senior capstone project and business platform. Companies submit their projects and connect with our talented students who undertake them as part of their capstone senior project coursework.
UTDsolv provides opportunities for Jindal School students to test their knowledge of what they have learned in the classroom and apply it in an industry setting. Students learn how to solve problems companies face in their daily operations. The projects also enable students and faculty to build stronger relationships with industry professionals.
Our email address is UTDsolv@utdallas.edu.
The UTDsolv project manager serves as the liaison between the company and the project team to ensure project progress according to the requirements and schedule. Ultimately, the PM is responsible for the successful completion of the project.
Senior students who have almost completed their coursework in one or more academic disciplines (e.g., accounting, business administration, global business, finance, healthcare management, human resource management, information technology, and systems, marketing, and supply chain management).
Please contact UTDsolv at UTDsolv@utdallas.edu or David Parks at (972) 883-5114.
For-profit companies, governments, and universities can submit projects.
Companies can submit their project online through UTDsolv.Submit Projects
After a project is submitted online, UTDsolv contacts the company to better understand the project’s scope and requirements and set expectations. Then UTDsolv works with appropriate JSOM faculty and assigns the project accordingly.
The project will be completed in one semester (16 weeks).
Companies must designate a contact person to devote one to TWO hours per week to the project and mentor students. The amount of time varies based on the complexity of the project. Each project will be completed in one semester (16 weeks, Fall and Spring semesters).
Companies must provide timely feedback to the project team, hold regular meetings via Microsoft Teams, provide necessary guidance as the project progresses, provide access to relevant company data and be available for the final project review and final presentation event at the end of the semester.
UTDsolv strongly suggests that companies not share confidential information or remove sensitive information from the project. However, if a project contains proprietary or confidential information, the faculty advisor works with the company to sign UTDsolv’s non-disclosure agreement.
The faculty adviser works collaboratively with the company (client) to determine the project scope.
Questions for Students
Each student spends about 10 hours a week on the project during the semester.
The faculty advisor assigns and allocates students to the projects.
A project may relate to a specific business problem, major, or several academic disciplines.
After completing the course, each student receives three semester credit hours.
JSOM offers the course every fall and spring semester.
Yes, but it is not easy because students need to dedicate many hours per week to the project (at least 10 hours per week) and the internship (at least 20 hours per week). Thus, students are strongly discouraged from enrolling in both during the same semester.
