ABOUT COMPANY We make eco-friendly paper bags, bin liners from newsprint, and flyers, We don’t pulp or add any chemicals. The goal of our company is to reduce chemicals and cutting of new trees, while creating local jobs. PROJECT SCOPE Our challenges: There are several tonnes of papers wasted in north America. At the same time the demand for paper bags is increasing. The kraft paper bags are not eco-friendly. Currently we collect clean newsprints, flyers from local libraries and flyer distributors (Nova Scotia & New Brunswick). Once it collected, we clean it without any chemicals or bleaching. After that we make paper bags and sell to small businesses. There are multiple challenges includes on handling logistics, supply chain management, essentials for small company. We don’t have any proper systems to streamline the whole process. We are looking for business solutions, suggestions from students on How to effectively collect the clean paper wastes and turn into a profitable and sustainable businesses. We want students to study any similar business models and suggest us solutions, it can be improvised solution, brand new solutions. 1) Business operations performance 2) Purchasing, sourcing, and procurement 3) Distribution and transportation 4) Supply and demand planning 5) Logistics 6) Manufacturing 7) Process flow 8) Software solutions / cloud management 9) Implementation of barcode 10) SKU development 11) Integration with solutions 12) Kaizen / 6S techniques Among all above, Greenii is especially interested in the ones highlighted in bold above: 1) Business operations performance 3) Distribution and transportation 4) Supply and demand planning – How to do forecasting & planning: develop a tool for forecasting & planning 5) Logistics 10) SKU development – How to manage SKU’s effectively – Transportation route: what is the most economical way? (transportation cost can be more expensive than the actual products) – Distribution strategy: How can Greenii centralize the operation and distribution? This project will be a great learning for students because this project involves with real time research, analysis and development. The students get a great hands-on from this project. We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic students/teams to participate, and help us to propose solutions. And mutually benefit each other. Possible benchmark companies: – Fabscrap: what is their process? How can we be inspired? Which tools do they use? Partnerships? – RAREFORM (in San Francisco, CA): Collect billboards on the highway, clean & change to backpack etc. – CHOPValue (in Vancouver): collect chopsticks from Asian restaurants and change to multiple products Summary We are looking for business solutions, suggestions from students on How to effectively collect the clean paper wastes and turn into a profitable and sustainable businesses.
