Green Project – Corrugate Management and Reduction
Project Description
Company Background
Ariat International is an American footwear, apparel and accessories brand for equestrian sports, work industries, and other outdoor activities, located in Union City, California. Ariat was launched by Beth Cross and Pam Parker in 1993. It has since become a popular brand in performance footwear for English and Western horseback riding.
Project Background
As a CPG company we deal with a lot of corrugated boxes. When I say a lot I mean – A LOT. Additionally, we strive to be smart with the waste generated in that we want to minimize it wherever we can.
Project Scope and Deliverables
We would ask for the students to come on-site as needed to review over the size of the issue and develop a strategy to achieve the following:
- Reduction in waste in corrugated boxes either through reuse or elimination.
- Reduction in cost for management of the corrugated boxes, including recycling.
- Develop a move forward strategy which takes into account repurpose or reuse of product including potential “out of box” solutions like shredding the boxes to make packaging filler for packages as an example (heck can use this and come up with some others if needed).
Critical Success Factors
Goal and purpose is to not only develop a project for the students but develop solutions that could demonstrate the students’ skills to any future employer and be very light on restrictions regarding proprietary and protected information within Ariat International.
